AAVA (The Australian Association of Voice Actors) is a not-for-profit association for those who work as Voice Actors, their representatives, and those who facilitate and draw income from the Voice Acting industry in Australia, such as casting directors, agents, AUDIO ENGINEERS, CREATIVE AGENCIES and studios.
AAVA seeks to preserve the viability of the Voice Acting profession, advocating for all concerned parties with government, unions, and industry.
In the Department of Industry Science and Resources “Safe and responsible AI in Australia -
Discussion paper” much is said of “high risk” applications of Ai.
This mainly alludes to medical applications and future concerns such as self driving vehicles.
When it comes to applications of Ai technology in communications, media, and creative sectors
the damage of Ai is already being felt putting these categories into a level of imminent risk,
actual real world damage to industry, labour displacement, media trust and intellectual property theft.
According to Ai Developer ELEVEN LABS who are a leader in the creation of Ai Voices "AI voice cloning is a technology that creates synthetic copies of human voices. It analyzes audio recordings to mimic the tone, pitch, and characteristics of a person's voice."
In the US 2024 "The State of Voice Over Survey" 6% of Voice Actors claim that a synthetic version of your their voice or a character they voiced had been created without their permission. This statistics are only set to rise as the take-up of this technology increases. If you see any of the following lanuage in a contract, chances are the client is looking to use your voice to create an Ai Voice:

It should be illegal to create a synthetic clone of an Australian citizen’s voice without informed and explicit consent. Assumed agreement should never be accepted.
Any person who consents to their voice being cloned using Ai technology should be able to, if they so wish, have control over how, where, and what content their voice is used for.
A voice actor should receive an agreeable level of compensation for their talent and potential loss of future work by creating a digital clone of their own voice.
Ai created audio content should be disclosed in an audible way when used. The identity of the creator and source voice should also be readily available to ensure an ethical production process.
Protections for data sets and source voice used to create a digital clone should be of absolute importance. Third parties must protect a voice actor's property, their voice.
All files used for the training and creation of Ai / Synthetic voice models should be fairly sourced, with the active consent and knowledge of the person the voice files are sourced from.
